Picking the Perfect Pineapple

The pineapple, an intimidating fruit, is waiting for you to look beyond its exterior and into its delicious and sweet center. How do you do this, you ask? We suggest using the three-sense test.
Eyes
The eye test is two-fold
- Make sure the pineapple has a good variation of color. A ripe pineapple shows green, brown, and golden goodness on the outside.
- The leaves of a ripe pineapple should look healthy and not wilted.
Nose
The pineapple’s sweetness rises from the ground up. To check for ripeness, smell the base of the pineapple where the root was once connected. If it smells sweet, you have found the one.
Touch
A ripe pineapple should be heavier than the rest in its weight class and have a slight give when squeezed.
