How Can I Use Dried Fruit?
Here’s the great thing about Augason Farm’s freeze-dried fruit—it can be used for almost anything you’d use fresh fruit for. Our fruit can be blended into delicious smoothies, thrown into trail mixes, added to muffin or bread batters or simply snacked on directly out of the can. Additionally, you can just go to your pantry and pull out fruit that may be out of season, instead of worrying about paying outrageous prices for the fresh version.
Here are just a few of our most popular fruit products and ways to incorporate them into your diet:
Dehydrated Apple Slices
Our dehydrated apple slices are delicious right out of the can or add water to use in your favorite recipes. Ready to use—no washing, peeling or slicing needed. Apples are also known to have anti-inflammatory, anti-allergenic and anti-carcinogenic properties. Throw into your morning granola or oatmeal for some sweetness, or chop up and sprinkle over your favorite cinnamon rolls for the ultimate apple pie cinnamon rolls.
Freeze Dried Whole Blueberries
Often considered a “super food” because they’re high in antioxidants, blueberries are a delicious and nutritious snack right out of the can. The freshly picked blueberry taste means that they mix beautifully in pancakes, granola, muffins and cheesecake, when reconstituted.
Freeze Dried Sliced Strawberries
Naturally sweet, these freeze-dried strawberries can be reconstituted and used in any recipe that calls for fresh strawberries—they’re that good! Perfect straight from the can as a delicious way to get your daily Vitamin C and antioxidants, or sprinkle over a bowl of ice cream for a fruity crunch.
Freeze Dried Whole Raspberries
Whole, freeze-dried raspberries are deliciously tart and rich in antioxidants and Vitamin C. They are tasty on their own as a snack, or rehydrate with some water and sugar or honey for a topping on breakfast cereal, desserts and fruit dishes.
Banana Chips
A family favorite, these banana chips are a sweet and delicious snack that add nutritious energy to trail mixes, baked goods or peanut butter sandwiches.
Back to School Snacks are Easy with Augason Farms
August means it’s time to start gearing up for school schedules and extracurricular activities. It also means that moms everywhere are bracing themselves for the daily complaints that there’s nothing to eat after school. But it doesn’t have to be difficult with Augason Farms! Here are a few tips and tricks for incorporating more fruit into your kids’ diets, as well as some simple and balanced recipes that will give your kids a healthy balance of carbs and protein for a filling snack that they’ll love.
- On the weekends, help your kids create their own trail mix full of the ingredients that they love, using a variety of nuts and Augason Farm’s freeze-dried fruits. Let them divide up their trail mix into Ziploc bags and keep them in the pantry for a quick, grab-and-go snack.
- Leave freeze-dried fruit in a container on the counter for them to sprinkle over their cereal or oatmeal, as a sweet and healthier substitute to sugar.
After School Toast
Toast is making a comeback in a big way as a quick and simple meal. It’s versatile and the perfect canvas for any flavors! It’s easy to customize this recipe for even the pickiest palate.
- 1 piece of honey whole wheat bread
- 1 Tbsp. cream cheese
- Augason Farms Freeze Dried Sliced Strawberries
- Honey, for drizzling
- Slivered almonds
Toast bread to desired crispness. Spread with cream cheese and layer on freeze dried sliced strawberries. Drizzle the top with desired amount of honey and sprinkle with slivered almonds. Cut toast into two triangles and watch it disappear!
Variations: For a sweeter, classic favorite, top toast with peanut butter, Augason Farms Banana Chips (crushed) and a sprinkling of mini chocolate chips. Substitute your bread for a wheat English muffin and top with peanut butter, dehydrated apple slices and sprinkle the top with cinnamon sugar. Place under an over broil until cinnamon sugar caramelizes and the English muffin gets a little toasted. So tasty!
